Red Rock Relay

My life has been filled with lots of running lately. Training for the RRR was no easy task. I have never been a distance runner. The thought of running for miles and miles never really appealed to me… or my lungs… or my knee.

However, some friends of mine somehow convinced me that running over a 24 hr period with 11 other people to reach 186 miles this past Friday and Saturday would be "fun". There were two vans, six people in each, lots of cold, lots of heat, and lots of stink. Our patience, joints, and muscles were stretched beyond their capacities and each of us reached our breaking point. So "fun" right?!

It was hard. But I haven't felt this "in shape" in a while! And even though I haven't reached my goal weight, I can feel my heart thanking me with each beat. Plus, I made some new friends, bitched with some old, breathed in gorgeous country, and got three cool t-shirts to show off how bad-ass I am. Really, can life get any better than that?

After each leg, you earn a bar with an "R"…we were pretty stoked.

Gump's Girls team minus one-- our twelfth girl is running her guts out.

We settled for a cute quote on a shirt. Trucker hat and beard were a little too much.
The amazing Mel, Merissa, and Chelsea. They rocked hardcore with their legs!

I never imagined that three markings from a Sharpie on my leg would make me feel complete.

Thank you, Red Rock Relay for kicking my butt into shape and making me feel much more alive!

p.s. My "bad-ass" only equals 11 miles in three different legs… so for all of you who aspire to accomplish such a feat as the RRR, it is doable. If my gimpy leg can do it, you can do it!

Thanks, you guys!

I have flashbacks at times and a small anxiety pang hits my stomach… but it really was worth it!

Oh wow! You are so amazing! I'm just amazing, honestly I would have died. I did my first 5k this year and about killed over. I need to work up to it more I think. But congrats to you! This is so very inspiring.
