For those of you who know me well, you know that the guy I dated for several years a while back trained in jiu jitsu and was obsessed with watching UFC. At first, I was appalled with the whole UFC thing, but then as I watched UFC and my boyfriend practice more, and learned a thing or two myself, I soon became fascinated with jiu jitsu's fixed moves and strategies. I would even practice a choke-hold on my older brother (14 yrs older) and was amazed at how easy it could be to effectively defend yourself with such simplistic technique. I still can't stand the brutality and blood of UFC, but watching guys or girls grapple competitively has really become a guilty pleasure of mine.
Anyway, this guy, BJ Penn (featured in my post) is a Hilo boy (where I'm from) and even though I think he's pompous, and I had a good chuckle when he lost to St Pierre by a split decision, I am anxious to see what this homeboy can bring to the table and represent for my hometown in his rematch with GSP this Saturday.

Awww I love all the new pictures you have up!
Be sure to stay tuned for my post tomorrow...I'm writing a poem to Pat in Pidgin!! :)
Aznuts!
THAT i gotta see.
i'm assuming this post was meant just for me. this will not be the fight of the year...this will be the fight of the decade! bj penn is a phenom at boxing and jiu-jitsu, but st pierre is a freak of nature at everything...especially conditioning. he also received his own black belt in bjj this week. st pierre just wants to beat the legend in penn...bj penn simply wants to kill st pierre. i see more animosity in penn's eyes...but you just can't bet against st pierre. if penn does not submit st pierre in the first two rounds, then expect st pierre to win a unanimous decision after five full rounds. bring it!
Woo hoo! You're gettin' me pumped for the fight, Wade! I am in complete agreement with your perspective on st pierre and penn. I watched the half hour promo on tv the other night that told penn's story and st pierre's story and I really respect st pierre and his life experience. I know penn as an arrogant, rich snob that was disliked by many guys when I was in high school. We'll see if he's smart and can put the childishness aside and is able execute a focused submission plan.
Pat was laughing and just shaking his head...then he busted out his pidgin and was all "hooo honey girl dat was da best!"
It was actually really hard for me to try to rhyme a poem in pidgin because I don't know a lot of words...google search helped me a lot!
did you end up watching the fight? what did you think?
Yeah, I watched it. It was really disappointing. I didn't care about who would win... but I DID wanna see a good fight, and that didn't happen.
I think BJ got what was coming to him. He's a cocky rich kid who thinks he's better than everyone and frankly, I think st. pierre is humble and much more hardworking than BJ ever was.
