Where did I come from??

Last night, while driving home from Costco, and after a long day, Max and I listened to the radio softly and sat in silence. Then, out of no where, Max asks,

"Mommy, where did I come from?" (said with an inflection over the "I"...as if he had been having an internal conversation on this debate for a while)

At first, I wasn't sure I heard correctly since it came out of no where and he IS only three.

"What, Sweetheart? Where did you come from?"

"Yeah, where?"

I laughed and answered, "...Well, you lived in heaven before you were born, and then came to earth in mama's tummy."

He says, "Oh." --as if he already knew this and had forgotten.

Then, "Mommy?"

"Yes, Sweetie?"

"Where did Jesus come from?"

"Well, he lived in heaven just like you and was born on earth too just like you."

(And here comes the blog-worthy response to that)...

"Oh, and did he go into your tummy too?"

Laughing I said, "No, Jesus had his own mommy and went into HIS mommy's tummy."

"Why?"

"Because that's how you come to earth... you gotta go into your mommy's tummy first. Everyone has their own mommy and then comes out of her tummy to be on earth."

"Oh."

Satisfied with my answers, he inquired no further as to how this could be.

Now if only it can stay this way for the harder questions to come. In the meantime, I love my son's innocent acceptance of truths that take mounds of faith from adults to believe in! Being a mom to a three year old rocks!
